Christmas can be the most wonderful time of the year but also the most stressful if you run a business. With so many things to do and not enough time to do them in, it can be common to neglect your business’ marketing strategy in the build up to the big day.
The festive period is the perfect time to really get creative with your marketing plan and stand out from competitors, so for this blog I thought I’d share some of my favourite ways of how you can get in the festive spirit with your digital marketing plan.
Send Cards to Customers and Clients
Christmas is a great opportunity to reconnect with both past and present clients and customers. Reaching out to the people you’ve met through your business by adding a personal touch to a Christmas card can really show off your brand’s value and loyalty. A simple note to say ‘Merry Christmas …. ’ can remind people how appreciative you are, as well as making them aware that you still exist if they may ever need your service in the future.
Top Tip: If you don’t want to fork out cash on cards spend the time creating a personalised E-card for your clients. This is something a bit different and gives you chance to show off your tech-savy skills. For inspiration take a look at Macmillan’s series of animated Christmas e-cards here.
Christmas Contest & Offers
Christmas themed giveaways and offers are a simple and easy marketing technique that can be really effective to reach larger audiences through social media. Giving away a festive themed prize such as a Christmas hamper or gift voucher is likely to attract new followers to your brand whilst spreading the Christmas joy at the same time.
Top tip: Use the 12 days of Christmas tradition as a theme in your giveaway. Use each day to introduce a new surprise offer, discount or prize to customers to keep them following your business right through the festive period!
Rebrand to a Festive Theme
Rebranding your business to a seasonal theme is a great way to get your customers in the Christmas spirit and it doesn’t have to be time-consuming. Your business won’t need a whole rebrand, it can just be as simple as adding a Santa hat to your logo or falling snowflakes on your website. Starbucks has become famous for bringing out its red cups during the winter time, so if you really want to impress why not add a Christmas theme to your packaging.

Collaborate With a Charity
Christmas time is all about giving, making it the perfect opportunity to collaborate with a charity. With so many organisations locally and nationally, getting involved with a charity event or fundraising programme can benefit your company whilst helping others at the same time. Raising money for charity is beneficial for team building, networking and demonstrating that you are a trustworthy and helpful business.
Top Tip: Promoting your charity collaboration on social media will encourage more people to get involved, raising recognition of your charitable involvement. Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day has been a successful campaign with many businesses taking part and sharing over social media using #ChristmasJumperDay.
Christmas Marketing Email
Get creative and send out a Christmas themed marketing email to your subscribers, thanking them for their support throughout the year. Remember to keep your email content relevant and interesting and definitely DON’T overload the email with information, no one has time to read a lengthy email over Christmas!
Top Tip: Offer a present to your subscribers such as a limited time offer, discount or freebie that can be used in the Christmas period. Here’s an example..
