T’is the season and I’m an absolute sucker for a Christmas advert. After watching this years John Lewis advert and being slightly underwhelmed, it got me thinking about all the amazing Christmas adverts that have come before. So, here’s my favourites of all time! (in no particular order)
Allegro, English for Beginners (2016)
I was first shown this advert a few years ago by my sixth form English teacher, (thanks Ms Davison!) and I’m really surprised more people haven’t seen it. It’s light-hearted, funny, and right at the end becomes a real tear jerker. Well done Allegro!
Edgar The Dragon (2019)
Anyone who knows me in person will know how much this one got to me. I remember putting it on at work and sitting at Rach’s desk with tears streaming down my face 🤣. Anything that has something so cute being so sad is bound to make me cry, I can’t help it! It was all a happy ending though, phew!
The Man On The Moon (2016)
I nearly, NEARLY forgot about this one! How could I?! I don’t even feel like I need to say anything about why I like this so much. Old person, cute sentiment and emotional music? Crying. 🌛
1914 (2014)
Sainsbury’s absolutely nailed this one. Just watch it. I didn’t really want to choose a favourite as I love them all, but this one is definitely it, and it’s made even better and 100x more emotional when you realise it’s based off a true story.
Monty The Penguin (2014)
Apparently 2014 was the year of the great Christmas adverts, as this is also one of my absolute favourites. I was 14 when this came out, so kind of at the end of the whole stage of having childhood imagination and I remember it being so bittersweet to watch. Nevertheless, extremely cute, and I also (at 21 years old) now want a pet penguin.
The Bear and the Hare (2013)
You didn’t think I’d forgot this one, did you? This was the first John Lewis advert I’d ever seen, and what a great one. It really highlights what Christmas is all about – spending it with people you love.
So there we are! My favourite Christmas adverts EVER. Which one’s your favourite? Let me know in the comments below! ☃
