Fonts are a large part of any form of design, they play a part in various elements of communication and can affect how we feel or interpret an advert, website or print piece.
The History of Typography
Typography is an ever changing art, over centuries type has developed and changed, check out the quirky video below to see how fonts have changed over many years.
The font you choose to market your brand or to anchor your project is a very important choice to make. A font can completely alter the atmosphere of a project and can also affect how the reader will take in the information you’re putting across.
First impressions matter and when your audience initially lands on your website or sees your document for the first time, what experience do you want them to have? Just like images, the font you decide on will evoke certain feelings or emotions for your audience.
The three examples below are using the same styled images, the same family of icons, however the fonts are different on each. Notice how this can convey three very different impressions.
Working in pairs
Web fonts can be difficult. Luckily for us Google have managed to simplify this, by allowing quick and simple implementation of fonts to the internet. However this has now created the problem of finding a font, with 100’s to choose from in various different styles, weights and appearances, it can be a bit of a pain.
Choosing a font for your project is always difficult, but finding two or more fonts thats work together can be a hard and time consuming process. Below are some websites which have done all the hard work for you, check them out:
