Are Websites Still Even Important in Today’s Modern Age?

It’s a question I asked myself recently: Are websites still a big deal?

In an age where social media dominates so much of our attention, it’s easy to assume that your online presence begins and ends with platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn. But after a recent chat with Ed, one of our brilliant Web Developers here at Superfly, I got a reality check on that.

Spoiler alert: websites are still absolutely essential. Like, really important.

Ed put it simply, your website is where your brand truly lives online. It’s your digital home, the one space you fully own and control. While social media is great for reach and engagement, it should complement your website, not replace it. To be honest, we’ve seen some real clangers out there too, clunky designs, broken links, confusing navigation… the list goes on.

One of our recent projects really brought this all to life. We had the pleasure of working with The Focus Group, a Hull-based counselling and therapy organisation that supports people navigating mental health and wellbeing. They came to us with a clear objective: they wanted a website that truly reflected who they are, simplified the user journey, and helped convert more visitors into service users. Their previous site just wasn’t cutting it, it lacked warmth, clarity, and didn’t align with their values.

So to summarise, yes, websites still matter. A lot.
