Katie’s First Month at Superfly

Katie’s First Month at Superfly

I can’t believe it’s May, which means I’ve been working at Superfly a month already! Before applying for the role at Superfly, I had the worry and stress of finding a full time job before leaving University in my chosen career. From studying a Fashion Communication and Promotion degree, this has given me key skills and knowledge that can be applied within many fields and not just fashion. This benefited me a lot as I found that I could use my abilities across different industries such as digital marketing, PR, graphic design and writing.

Throughout my course I found that marketing was the area which I enjoyed the most as I loved coming up with new ideas and creative ways to develop and promote a company. As soon as I decided I wanted to work within this sector I started to look for jobs and work placements.

After endlessly searching, I really struggled to find any jobs that I felt that I would enjoy and that also didn’t need years of experience. The pressures of finding the perfect job role straight after university can be really tough and although you may have gained a good degree, sometimes finding valuable experience can be a struggle. So when I found the job for Superfly I knew I had to apply. A couple of weeks later and I was so pleased to be offered the role as a Marketing Executive!

Although I was quite nervous for my first day at Superfly, I soon realised I had nothing to be worried about as it was such a relaxed environment. Over the past month I’ve learnt so many new aspects of marketing that I never thought I would. Since I have not had a lot of experience previously, I thought that I would just be assisting with the small jobs of the business but since day one I have had the responsibility of sourcing content, updating social media pages, writing blogs, designing graphics and communicating with a range of clients.

From my experience, university is great to gain the knowledge and understanding of how an industry works but actually working in the industry, with real clients teaches you a lot more and gives you the opportunity to really learn how things are done. Throughout my first month I have also attended client meetings, learnt how to use new programs and have even contributed to marketing proposals. I can honestly say I didn’t expect to be building up my expertise in such a short amount of time.

Over the next few weeks I’m looking forward to finishing university and learning much more. I’m really excited to start my marketing career full time with Superfly!
